The inspiration behind Swifix

Starting his career as a plasterer specialising in the restoration of ornamental plasterwork, Paul was introduced to the installation of external wall insulation some 29 years ago by a small local Devon business. He had just joined this business but continued there for 20 years – seeing it grow and become a FTSE 250 listed company.

During his career, Paul has worked in numerous directorships within businesses, delivering external wall insulation, Decent Homes maintenance, gas and electrical and renewable services.

Having joined a leading EWI installer in 2011, he comments:

“Having a knowledge of the external wall market seemed the next step in my career due to the potential growth forecast with funding support to the general population, and was surprised that after nearly 30 years the process for installation hadn’t changed at all, and timber was still used in the process, but with installations now issued with guarantees.”

“It was clear that as the sector was better funded, there was an increase in the number of installers providing services in order to achieve eco targets. But with an increase in activity it was even clearer that there was no consideration given to the type of timber to be used, and so we have seen a huge increase in the use of inappropriate timber that has the potential for future failure.”

After searching online and looking for an alternative to using timber, there wasn’t anything available at a competitive price for inclusion in tenders. There was nothing designed specifically for external wall and cladding application. Hence, Paul set about the development of our innovative products.
